Hey nerdy people. It's me, the real Carlton Banks, aka the real Black Nerd, aka Bill Nye's 2nd cousin through adoption. Today, we have the Loser Philospher, Bobby Woody's new track, Find Freedom Lonely Losers

I don't know if you guys know, but I know Bobby Woody personally. He inspired me to make this blog shit. I was waiting for him to drop something so I could tell him what I think (and bash him heheh). People call him me. He's not me.

"I smell bullshit.. Must be cuffin season." HAHAHAH

Somebody should put this on RapGenius.com. There are quite a few lines here that I'm pretty sure most non-nerdy people just wouldn't get, or some of us nerds who probably didn't catch certain things the first time. I honestly missed a few, but then I listened a second time and was just like dayum. Mostly talking about the cartoon references like: "I'm battling tragedy and mana is baffling. Yugioh showed me dueling, but cartoons ain't explain gravity. It's a theory, it's grappling me down, this isn't happening." That line right there is pretty cool. I'm pretty sure the talk of mana getting lower (baffling) is from Bakugan or one of the old TCG's that we all used to be on when we were kids and then it leads on into Yu-Gi-Oh which sets up a bit of a playful tone. The part that's like "Cartoons ain't explain gravity... It's grappling me down," suddenly saddens everything. Although, I thought that was a bit cool because it referred to the album art (which is a screenshot of the Pigeon Man episode of Hey Arnold) that I heard mentioned nowhere else. In reality, Pigeon Man would not be able to be carried by pigeons lol. That's a bit of an underlying plot for the next line where Woody (hehe funny name) where he begins to speak as he's in a conversation with someone else talking a confused girl out of suicide. "Starfire made it look easy." Flying=Suicide. It's.. touching?

The chorus is okay. Should've kept Amber Coffman on it! Her voice was so beautiful! and that body is so.. statesque..

The next verse starts out a bit offbeat to me, but it's the one I like best. The first line alone, "There is the American dream and the Black American Teen," is a big criticism on the American dream. If you read Of Mice and Men, George and Lennie's dream of a house of their own and working for themselves; that was and still is widely considered as the American Dream. The dream of a large amount (NOT ALL) of black kids wanting to be rappers or models. Again, not all, just a majority. Two very skewed dreams. It leads into talk of murders and a father brutally hitting his family. This is the area of which Bobby wants to Get Free of. One last line I'll touch on that almost gave me hope in humanity was "I seek answers that Sophocles couldn't reach. I'm in the search for pansophy. Maybe man will see that pansophy isn't impossible, but most of man's greatest knowledge has yet to be thought of." That line is a little stroke of intellect. I love it. I know we all know Sophocles (the ancient Greek playwright). I'm assuming by "couldn't reach," means that he died, or couldn't live long enough to experience everything. (Maybe this line is about Aeschylus. lol) At first, I thought it was a mistake and he meant to say Socrates the philosopher. As it keep going he mentions "The search for pansophy." Pansophy is basically, knowing everything. Ancient Greek philosophers believed it was possible to write down everything they knew into books. Apparently Bobby does too, just not yet. I feel like the Sophocles/Pansophy lines were supposed to connect somewhere, but I'm not sure. welp.

One line that I just didn't get in this song was "As I jump through dimensions like breach and breach security.." This is why we need Rap Genius. lol 

The song was brilliant and the lyrics are well-crafted. If I could write so much about one of his remixes, imagine what I could do if this dude dropped a mixtape? You need to stop playing that one song a month thing and drop something serious! Or Imagine what I'd write about Kendrick Lamar's new album.. yeah haha. Go listen to it and support a Baltimore artist that I support.

Eske - Fuckin Problems (ft. BKnitts, Tommy Prospect & Bobby Woody) [New Song]

Ayo! It's Bill Nye's 2nd cousin aka the original Black Nerd, Waverly Spades! I'm pretty sure this song was released about a month ago, but I had to post it! It has three people that I've posted before and love! (BKnitts, Bobby Woody, and Tommy Prospect) If you don't recognize Tommy Prospect, it's because he used to go by the name TGK. "Tommy Prospect" sounds a bit more matured to me. I like it. The new kid here is a Milwaukee rapper that was raised in the suburbs of Chicago (lolwut?) named Eske. I'm pretty sure that's a river in Ireland. And now that I've taught you something new, we can go on with the song! I'll just tell you guys how I like it verse by verse.

BKnitts - This verse was one of the hardest to me. Also the 2nd funniest. "Sweet Jesus. BKnitts, stop rapping like you mean it! People gotta think you're not manic or conceited!" The verse easily switches around and gets a bit narcissistic. That's not a bad thing. It's just really clever to use your problems on a trap called Fuckin' Problem lol. "Got 2Chainz, I'll be glad to rip em off ya!" Did I hear BKnitts do Schoolboy Q's "yawk yawk" thing?

Eske - I have mixed feelings about this verse. It's not bad or anything, but you know how people feel about ASAP Rocky's verse of the original to this song? That's how I feel about this verse. It's only feature quality, but it's his song. Eske speaks a lot about the job market and rappers messing things up being his problems, but other times, lyrics put together just don't make sense to me. Overall, this verse is great. I listened to some of the other stuff on this guys YouTube where I like his verses more. They just make more sense to me! My main complaint is the quality. The verse sounds recorded on a laptop! Step that game up, son!
"Music game is tough and this job market's cutthroat." 

Tommy Prospect - I like that first line. It reminds me of Camus' "Maman died today" in The Stranger. "Me and Bobby just some hoodrat misfits." idk why exactly, it's just odd. like, who starts a verse like that? lol. "I'm gifteeeed like Christmas!" I see who is the Drake of this song. lol. "See a 14 year old, all y'all know is the man!" I like Tommy's verse because instead of rapping about his problems, he raps about his lack thereof. Not saying he has a lack thereof, but this is the verse that seems most mainstream crafted, but it's not. Instead of complaining, it's basking in the happiness of the moment. I fucks widit.
"I'm gon punch my problems in the face. What the fuck is a problem anyway?"

Bobby Woody - okay as soon as I heard "THEY LOVE DINGO GANG THAT'S THE FUCKIN' PROBLEM," I had that face like "this nigga.." This verse is the funniest to me. Bobby clearly is the one who sticks to the topic of the song: fucking girls; but his problem: girls don't want to fuck him. lol. "I said 'girl, I know  you want this dick!' She said 'Bobby, that shit sick!'" Like it starts off really serious like "And now this music shit is a business," but somehow gets to lines like "A virgin getting more bitches on his Toshiba" lmao is this nigga rapping about porn? I don't understand! And he gets to talking about the friend zone and shit. Somebody, please put this in RapGenius for me. I'm having a fuckin problem understanding what he's rapping about!
"Ho happy she got a nigga acting niggerish.. Bitch, I got a white girl acting liquorish!"

Overall, I like the song! Nerd approval over here!

#SummerSessions - BKnitts

My second review here, and this time, on BKnitt's latest..

Milwaukee, WI is the birthplace of cheese! I don't really hear about many rappers or any type of musicians from that part of the country very often (at least none that get popular enough to reach me), but I've finally found one! I found Brad Knitter, aka BKnitts, through Bobby Woody tweeting something about Brad's new mixtape #SummerSessions like a week ago. Knowing Bobby's taste, I couldn't resist and decided to take a listen. Here's what I thought..

Beach House (Intro)

This is an amazing intro. The beat is beautiful. Who produced this? What is that sample? haha I love it. Already got that summer feel.

So this song came to through a contest that Brad won. He got a free collab with popular, female MC, GSnaps. I love the original, so I'm glad they hopped on this beat. BKnitts killed it, but then GSnaps just killed it. This is too dope. I would've been even happier if they did an original. *sighs*

God damn, how real is this? TOO FUCKING DOPE. The beat is hot and Brad SPAZZES. So early in the tape and already one of my favorite tracks. And that fast flow? God dayum.

One of my favorite industry beats in a while. BKnitts killed.he's one of those awkward looking white dudes, so it sorta makes me chuckle imagining him doing some of the stuff he talks about in here. When Knitts starts singing though, I go off. That's amazing. The dude really has a voice. G$Rab kills it.

ok This one, I don't like so much. BKnitts says some funny stuff, I can't lie. I like his lyrics and all, I just HATE the Paper Planes beat. Brad killed it nonetheless. lol. I like it and don't like it at the sometime.

The Moment (ft. Eske & Bobby Woody)

Now here's a rap song with a message. It's also the most quotable. One thing to improve: the mixing. Eske's voice needs to be EQ'd with the track and Bobby's needs to be turned up a bit. It sounds dope. Eske talks about the American scam of College, Brad gets a bit usual with his topic of getting famous, and Bobby is a bit random, but he said "I'm just a Squidward in a world full of Squilliams." Mad love for that Spongebob reference. That beat is also hot.

This is an amazing song. The beat is beautiful and Knitts uses a witty flow with some lyrics with a bit of a deeper meaning. The chorus makes me a bit jumpy. I love it!

I'm pretty sure I've heard of Young Fusion through GSnaps or something. I love this song. He hops on that hook and it's just hilarious. That beat is so 2002! lol. Brad killed it. Fusion went off also. His flow is hot. This is one of those tracks you bump through the hood with the windows down, music loud as fuck

WAYNE'S WORLD! I love the beat! Was this for a cypher or something like that on YouTube? I love what BKnitts did with this song. He criticized school (something I also criticize) and I love how he did it.

No Interruptions (ft. Nolan Ollis & SwiSS)

This beat alone interests me a bit. It doesn't have me jumping or anything, but it's cool. I don't like the chorus much and BKnitts' verse gets typical with some of his earlier stuff. Nolan Ollis was alright. He needs to clean his flow up a bit. SwiSS absolutely killed it! I love that Jerry Sandusky line. lol.

awwwww shit. Brad got that "We need to talk" call. #TeamSingle. lol. I like the story Brad sets up with this. It's not a typical love song, it's chill and a bit sensual. I really like it.

Lightwork

No one has gone over the Ellie Goulding sample and not killed it. (If so, that's disrespectful to good music everywhere.) Of course, Brad killed this, though. Nice little way to end the tape.

Honestly, I really like the whole mixtape. I think this here is the best mixtape I've listened to this summer. It's got that perfect summer feel. I like mostly everything about it. All of the songs are very well put together: features and everything. One thing I think Brad should work on is his mixing (or whoever mixes his tracks). The beat tends to be too loud at times (or the voice being to low). Another thing, I think Brad should get more originals! I like the remixes, but originals show us who you completely are! Overall, I loved the tape. I expect more from this guy in the future. 81.8% - B-

Bobby Woody - Roland (Telegraph Ave Remix)

Hey Trekkies, and Nerds! I'm feeling bad because I realized that I didn't put on my signature introduction. I've really been out of it, so I'm going to revamp it for this one. Ayo, it's me: Bill Nye's 2nd cousin aka the ORIGINAL black nerd aka the REAL Carlton Banks aka the Blacker Hacker aka Big Ghost's Prodigy aka the 3rd realest nigga in the game aka Game of Spades, but you may just know me by fake name on the streets: Waverly Spades. Today I have with me, a friend of mine, Bobby Woody's latest track. I haven't put him on here since his "Rollin In Da Deep." (hahah been a while, dude.) While Bobby is a great rapper, I've always felt that he was producer first, and this one is his latest beat. (This is an instrumental remix of Telegraph Ave from Childish Gambino's new album "Because The Internet.") His rapping is fast paced, all over the place, and confident in his insecurities and his beats are a reflection of that. When it starts, you have no idea where it's going to go, but then, you hear that "Chicks Love Bobby Woody." It's a lot of the little things that make this track. The piano lines are easily a standout. That weird percussive synth thing that plays around with the hats. This dude even sings for a bit (or at least I think that's him. I didn't hear that part in the orignal. lol.) Overall, this is a great track. I was listening to the original nonstop before I heard this. Good ass job.

Headed To Gold [Prod. by Bobby Woody] - I like the beat. It's jumpy. The song is nice little introduction. Not much to say here.

Sittin' On My Sofa [Prod. by Thoughts Getting Kreative] - This is one of the tracks that dropped before the tape. It had a music video and everything. I love this song. Being a listener to TGK to a while, I honestly think this is one of the best songs I've heard from him. I believe he produced this himself too.. ? This song somewhat describes TGK to me: A young, chill, white kid who can rap (who has a lot of potential). While a tad bit lacking in lyrical content, the chill flow and beat make this a dope song. (The Future Effect). If you haven't seen it, the music video for this is cool too.

Birds Are Dope. [Prod. by Thoughts Getting Kreative] - I didn't like it at first, but after I listened to this track a few times, I LOVE this beat and that chorus. Kreative's brother, Nick Bates killed it on the remix too. This track is hot.
"Haters hush up like Jessica Lange." WHAT? That movie was released when he was born? Whatchu know about that Thomas? lol.

Lost In Space (ft. Kitto) [Prod. by Cheif Kitto] - Ok. I'm not even going to lie. The song is weak when I first pressed play. Kitto's verse was okay. The beat isn't fully mixed, so that annoys me some (like the fake Carlton made ), but when TGK comes in, it comes off more listenable. I like the chorus. It's a change in pace for the song. There was one section in the song about how 2Pac is the most overrated rapper. I don't personally agree with this statement, but he's right about one thing. Most Pac and Big fans don't know a thing about the Outlawz.

Washington, DC [Prod. by Thoughts Getting Kreative] -  So I live in  Baltimore, so I love all of the Baltimore and Bobby Woody references, especially the one to Never On Sunday's! I love that restaurant. And now I'm hungry for their grilled cheese.

Heart And Soul / Spider Webs Interlude [Prod. by Thoughts Getting Kreative] - That sample/beat is genius. The song is creatively conscious. Kreative starts out rapping as himself, a deadbeat rapper in 20 years telling himself to quit. The 2nd verse is TGK telling himself that he's not quitting. The whole thing is oddly inspirational. He should send this song to himself in 20 years using FutureMe. This song is Carlton Banks Approved. The Spider Webs interlude is beautiful too. So far, my favorite songs off of the tape. If you don't listen to whole mixtapes, but want one song to prove the potential of this kid, check this one out.

No Curfew (ft. Bobby Woody) [Prod. by Bobby Woody] - This beat is weird. It's an aberration from the rest of the tape to me. Me and Bill Nye fux wid it. "I gotta glass of milk, then it spilled.." was that a WiseGuy reference? I like a bit of what Tommy was saying. The song was very decent.

Cool Whip [Prod. by Victor Jones] - Ruby Mitchell bought this beat! I LOVE this song. This is song is a what I call the Tyga effect. There's a doper beat, so the rapper steps their shit up. I heard like 3 different flows in the first verse. lol I'mma start sayin "IT'S GON BE COOL WHIP, NIGGA" around school. This song is so swaqqie, son. I don't even need to use a monumental word for you to understand that. This just bumps. I'mma hop in the club and tell the DJ to play this and the white bitches will shake the ass. -goes off to do swag dance.-

Too Real [Prod. by Thoughts Getting Kreative] - Tell me why the beat reminds me of the one for Clique. It's just the beat. I know this is completely unrelated, but the mixing on this song alone is pretty alluring.

Take A Bow (ft. Pure Knowledge) [Prod. by Thoughts Getting Kreative] - Oh yeah I remember this! It dropped before the mixtape, video and all. I love the flows on this. Tommy came in and killed it and PK murdered. I don't fully understand the title, but I can hear them rapping about wanting to get famous. I like this song. It's classy. Did PK pull out one of Big Sean's "Boi's"? noooooo. I like Kreative's 2nd verse best.

Live Good [Prod. by Thoughts Getting Kreative]- The beat starts and I'm thinking that beat for King by Vanity is playing. This is cool too, though. When TGK starts rapping, I didn't like it, but I start to feel the vibe and like it. I'm wondering what sample was for this beat. I agree with everything Master Bates is saying with this track. It is someone beautiful. He goes from living good and talks about how the fans don't matter and his dreams. It's dreamily nice. The singing in the background gets annoying sometimes. Just live nice.

Way Fly [Prod. by Caleb Sarikey Beats] - The beat is a beautiful looped sample. Some old school Kanye type shit. I was really expecting TGK to go harder. The song and lyrics are enjoyable, but I feel this is one of those songs where you have to start rapping aggressive (he didn't start switching the flow until about the 2nd verse. it's nice though.) This is another one of those tracks I had to ease into. I dig it though.

Chickens (ft. Lil E & Emceeven) [Prod. by Victor Jones] - I dig this beat too. I see Emceeven bough this beat too hehe. Chicken is a weird name for a song to me though. I keep thinking of the space chicken in that one episode of Courage the Cowardly dog. One line that made me think for a second was when Lil E said "What does it mean to be intelligent when loved ones are irrelevant?" After thinking, I think that made no type of sense. Two lines put together just to rhyme. lol put some thought into things, guys. Lil E and Emceeven put in a few dope bars. It's a coo' song.

Drop Your Jaws [Prod. by Thoughts Getting Kreative] - Aww yeah! One of those epic movie score song sounding beats! I'm pretty sure that is a film score sample. lol. The song is dope! I love the chorus. This is one of my favorites off the tape. Good job Thomas. Good job.

Sittin' On My Sofa - P2 (ft. BKnitts) [Prod. by Thoughts Getting Kreative] - This was the track I anticipated most on the mixtape. I knew BKnitts was going to be on, and you guys know, I already love him. When I saw this in the tracklist, I jumped for joy a bit. I love the song. The beat is amazing. Both of them kill it. I'm jumping around and dancing to this. Definitely saved the best for last.

Overall, I love this mixtape. I'm not loving it because it's GKMC or something extraordinarily new and amazing, but because this is the definition of potential. I am sure all rappers have a mixtape like this laying in the archives. The beginning stages. Kendrick Lamar's first mixtape was his potential. KiD CuDi's Demo Tapes were his potential. Once artists get past their potential stages, that's when they really grow like artist. There are some dope songs on here and TGK made a majority of the beats which is amazing. While somewhat lacking in lyrical comment, the beats tend to make up for it. This mixtape is better than No Curfew Vol. 1, and I believe that TGK's next project will show him in his true form. In an odd way, I do love this. Good job, kid. Keep improving. Sheldon Cooper has his eyes on this.

Bobby Woody - Rollin in da Deep [Song Review]

Hello my fellow Trekkies and Transporters. You may know me by many a monikers, such as the Blacker Hacker, the Real Black Nerd, Bill Nye's 2nd cousin, but my real name (well not really), is Waverly Spades. Here this week, I have Bobby Woody's latest single "Rollin in da Deep." Might I add, I'm a month late and continuing my streak of tardiness with these posts! (Sorry, guys!) This joint dropped around Valentine's day as an attempt to continue his tradition in making friend zone songs or some shit like that. Well, I finally listened to the track, and man, this is HIGHLY slept on. That first line alone "You think I'm like those other guys, you're crazy" just sets the tone. I didn't understand at first that it was somewhat a reference to the first line of Gambino's Rolling In The Deep remix where he said "You think that I keep fucking other girls. You know I'm not." Haha I got that as soon as I actually read his description of the video. One thing about this song (which is also one thing I like about Bobby) is that it's packed with reference after reference to keep the feel/story going. Like BAM! Blue October reference. BAM! Wake Me Up When September Ends reference. BAM! Chowder reference. In this all in like a matter of 4 lines, it's ridiculous! AND BAM AGAIN! Drake reference. There's even a reference to Childish Gambino and Jamie xx's remix of this song, and on top of all that, some crazy wordplay. My favorite line is probably "Small nigga, but tall enough to have gone swimming. Shallow bitches, but some deep enough to call women" (Drake reference) The whole song is crazy and underrated to me. That last line is a perfect finisher. "If you come to my house, then please bring me lotion because I'd rather do me than do you and your emotions." Bobby really just spills on this shit. At times it sounds like he's hating all women ever, but then others, it sounds like he's really going at one specific person. I feel sorry for that person hahaha. But this song gets mad props. 4.7 Nerd Contemplations out of 5.

Young, Baltimorean emcee, Jay Verze has been hyping people up for this debut project since late 2011/early 2012. I can't remember exactly when, but he's definitely had us waiting and expecting something great. The Adolescent Phenom has entitled his mixtape "21117" after the zip code of his Owings Mills neighborhood. For the young rapper, this project is "where everything originated."

Time Out ft. R.Jay (Prod. by TrackOfficialz) -

This is a GREAT intro the mixtape. The news clipping really set the tone and describes the trouble that a preponderance of Baltimore teens seem to get into. The song itself vibes. TrackOfficialz made something epic and easygoing at the same time. Verze pretty much tells us he's going to make this work. We all know it's a struggle with this hip hop thing, and he is definitely ready for the journey that comes with it.

"This the playoffs. I'm going for that trophy, boy. The game is in the joint and all my niggas thirsty, boy."

Est. 1995 (Prod. by Flawless Tracks) -

Okay. The beat is HOT. I have to know, what sample is that? GodDAMN. Flawless Tracks aka The Best Kept Secret (Also one of Wale's producers) killed that. Jay Verze turned it into the perfect summer song. I love that "from the block" line. haha.

Matter of Time (Prod. by IllMuzik) -

Another one of those songs "Last year, niggas didn't fuck with me, but now they see me coming up, so they want to be my friends, and since I reject them like they rejected me, they say I changed. Comeuppance is a bitch, ain't it?" While the message is a bit typical, I like the song. One thing that annoys me about songs like this is that he's not famous, yet. Let the fickle bandwagon.. for now. The beat is amazing.

Boring Nights & Hip Hop (Prod. by Lexi Banks) -

Here's a song every rapper can relate to at one point in their life. I know I can haha. Jay tells us that the boring nights making hip hop pay off. At time, the lyrics get a bit cliche (mainly in the chorus), but the song is still on point. Lexi Banks made fire with this. Is it just me or does Verze's deep voice sound weird?

"Them long days and late nights, dawg that's how we get it."

Crusin' (Prod. by Lexi Banks) -

This was one of the singles to drop before the mixtape. Honestly, I don't like this song. The beat is okay and Jay Verze puts some nice bars in it, but overall I don't like it. I don't like the chorus either. It sounds so typical. Does Jay Verze even have this girl he speaks about in the chorus? lol. "On a rainy day. that's when I'm in my prime. That's when I'm in the studio writing these dope rhymes." I'm sorry, but that had to be one of the weakest lines... definitely my least liked song off of the mixtape.

All The Calls Are Off ft. Jujuan Allen (Prod. by Kraze) - This beat already has that old school vibe that gets you to bump your head with that "ungh" face. Verze changed up the flow a little on this. That was cool. Jujuan added a dope verse. I fucks with it. That hook vibes. This here almost sounds like an old Wiz track. Another song with a typical topic, but it's a nice variation from most songs that talk about being a boss. *looks at William Leonard Roberts II* "I'm a cool, lil' nigga. 50 for a verse just to do something witcha" 3/5

Interlude - 12 O'Clock (Prod. by Dres'More) -

I know I'm a horrible person, but I can't help, but laugh. The beat has that smooth feel, and Verze is hitting the right notes and all, but when he just goes "Can you call me? ahh haaa," I picture him with that R. Kelly face. The song is actually nice, I just can't stop laughing. lol. And then this nigga slows it down so he can talk in his deep voice. like "i swear this is the life, man... I'm in here by myself. I got the lights off. I'm just relaxin, you know. I hope y'all feeling like me tonight." That's Jay Kelly, my nigga. lol.

5/5 because this track is demulcent, yet made me die laughing at the same time.

The Drama Story (Prod. by Mr. Kooman) -

Mr. Kooman has something beautiful here. The beat alone puts a tear to my eye. Verze starts out describes a drug dealer who got a girl pregnant that's facing his fear and the challenge of becoming a father. Next verse, he talks of a girlfriend of the drug dealer. Just as sad a story. One of my favorite tracks of the mixtape.

About That Time ft. Rome Duran (Prod. by Flawless Tracks) -

I love Rome Duran. The mixtape he dropped was amazing. Just seeing his name got me excited. Jay Verze switched up some flows and Rome sang an amazing hook. All of that with Flawless Tracks' production makes a beautiful song.

Teenage Lust Pt. 3 ft. Will (Prod. by Rip Knoxx) -

Who is Will? With a name like that, it's not easy to find you on Google, but the boy sings an amazing hook. Rip is one of my favorite producers in the Baltimore (and the DMV). The beat is hot. It's not exactly another love/breakup song. It's a bit more interesting.

This beat is so feel good. It's got that Summer feeling. Just something to bump with the windows down when you're riding the whip around on a nice summer day. I think this should get one of those white people, summer fun music videos. lol.

Hands Up ft. Tay West (Prod. by Scrilla Beats) -

THAT TENOR, MY NIGGA? WHO'S PLAYING THAT TENOR? WHAT'S THAT SAMPLE. GODDAMN SCRILLA. Tay West did a nice, little hook. It was a brevity, but still dope. Another one of those feel good tracks. A bit typical, but nothing unoriginal.

See You Later ft. Y1 & Rickie Jacobs (Prod. by Rip Knoxx) -

One question: Why is this the only censored song on the mixtape? lol. I know you have the radio ready versions, but this is the CDQ/Album version. This doesn't need to be clean (not that it's even THAT dirty). Another one of the singles released before. I believe this dropped on Valentine's Day as a breakup song or something of that sort.(A lotta songs dropped that day like this, like Bobby Woody did that Frank Ocean Remix, TyQuan and that Love Puppet track, and a plethora more..) I love this song. Jay Verze put down a hot verse, but then Y1 added some amazing stuff, and then Rickie Jacobs (probably my favorite rapper from Baltimore) really just KILLED IT. And Rip Knoxx never disappoints.

Feelin Like A Star ft. Starrz (Prod. by Luger Beats) -

This beat is hard. Originally when it dropped, I didn't like the song because I don't like that feel of beats, but it's something I can at least pretend to dance too. Starrz added an amazing verse.

Let Go (Prod. by Lexi Banks) -

Awwwwwwwwwwww yeahh. I love Frou Frou and I love how Lexi sampled them. Does Verze even know that sample? lol. Frou Frou and Imogen Heap always make the nicest samples. Jay Verze just went hard on the beat though. I love this song. I don't even need to say anything more about this. Easily my favorite track on the tape.

Great beat. Great song. Nice way to end things. Enough said.

My Place ft Shwaze Collins (Prod. by Twigg) - I don't understand the point of Bonus songs and I was wondering when Schwaze would get his feature on the tape. The beat is fire. I didn't like the chorus at first, but it grows on you. Jay Verze put down a nice verse and Shwaze killed it too.

The mixtape was a nice change from usual ascensions of most of the rap about gun toting and selling drugs here in Baltimore. One thing I didn't mention that I really like is Verze's use of time on the project. He's always like "uh. it's 4 in the morning" or something like that and even named the interlude "12 O'Clock." I don't know what it is, but something about that is just amiable. The one thing I don't like about it is that most of the beats come from producers on SoundClick that he most likely doesn't know. I know that Rip is a Baltimore dude and I couldn't find who Twigg or Kraze are. The rest: Guys on Soundclick. I respect there internet grind and they do make great beats, but I think a local artist like Jay Verze should go to some more local producers (Street Scott, MIC, Judah, Bobby Woody, King Midas, etc.) Overall, I like the project. It didn't live up to all of the hype I expected, but it's still pretty amazing! Jay Verze's lyrical content has room to improve, but the boy makes some nice songs. I can see him going far. Check out his mixtape and be sure to follow this kid for greater things in the future. 76% - C

Nerds Like Rap?

One of the first successful "Nerdcore" rappers was probably MC Frontalot. Since then, the term nerd has been over used, thrown around, changed, and a multitude of other things, but here, we stick to the original definition: one whose IQ exceeds their weight.
Other nerds include: Prince Ea, Lupe Fiasco, Street Light, Ab-Soul, Kendrick Lamar, etc.

What is this right here?
It's another music blog, I guess.
Well.. it's not just that. I'm not going to use this as one of those blogs that just posts peoples' music because you send it. I'm going to listen to everything sent to me and post my honest opinions of it. I might sound grandiloquent at times, but there will always substance in what I say, I promise you. Read everything closely with a dictionary app up and you might learn something.

Who am I?
I am Waverly Spades. No. That isn't my real name. It's a pseudonym. One of my favorite pseudonyms is Pseudonymous Bosch. He's a great author. I'm a teenager from Baltimore who has an interest in most styles of music, but I like Hip-Hop the most. I'm black. I wear glasses. I study music theory in my spare time.

Why did I make this?
Too many blogs are so generic.
aaand like I said, I'm from Baltimore, MD. There are not a lot of good blogs here (but there are some good ones like BmoresVeryOwn and Definition Of Fresh). I don't want to be considered just a Baltimore blog though. I will post stuff from people all around the world. I want to put out my sometimes controversial (that's what my friends say) thoughts about Hip-Hop. I also don't mind helping expose some lesser known artists. This is like the Big Ghost Chronicles except I have an opposite personality.

Twoiney Lo - I Have A Dream

What's up, my precious, little children of the corn. It's me: The real Carlton Banks, Bill Nye's 2nd Cousin, the original Black Nerd and I want to introduce you to the New Year! Happy New Year from all of us (just me) here at NLR2.

On this fine New Year, I bring you some TwoineyLo. I know you're thinking "Wave, I thought you hated that nigga. That last post was brutal!" That's not true. I don't hate people! ...I just hated that song. Twoiney Lo sent me this a few days ago and I slept ago, but I decided to turn over a new leaf and look at everything in my inbox. I took a listen and I somewhat like this. Twoiney starts off with his own speech about his dream and life. Then, the beat fades in. The beat is nice. Ufmo made some old East Coast type shit. I like it. Sounds like a Joey BadA$$ beat. The lyrics didn't appeal to me at first, but at least they were on beat. Twoiney is clearly important. He spit a few good lines like "How you living holy if all you do is sin?" (possible Holy Life diss) "I find it crazy how people think they are the shit.. cuz the own a lot of material things." I like that Lil Wayne reference he stuck in there. The song ends with an MLK speech which reminds me of the end of Bobby Woody's "I Hate The Word," except it's actually Martin Luther King. lol. The song is nice and Twoiney Lo is showing improvement.
